Glamping

Great question!  We’re so glad you asked.  Glamping is the combination of the word “camping” and “glamorous.”  Sounds counter intuitive, right?  This is camping reinvented — the ability to enjoy the outdoors with the comfort of a bed, some bug control, and with a fire and s’mores.  We highly recommend it.

Book your own tent on our website here at www.purplealpacafarms.com/glamping-booking or you can also find us on airbnb.  We recommend booking on our website as we do send out the occasional coupon code via our newsletter and social media.

The glamping prices start at $80/night and go up from there.  The pricing may vary depending on which tent you book, whether it is a weekday or weekend, and what packages or add-ons you include.

All our tents include: firepits, outdoor chairs and picnic table, interior lights, a small fan, a travel game to play, queen bed and a twin floor mattress (sheets included!), indoor floor seat pillows, outdoor solar bug zappers.

Also included is a small sack of grain to feed our alpacas with, outdoor solar lighting, and a shared bath-house.  Each tent will have it’s own picnic area and, depending on which tent you’ve booked, you may have additional amenities such as a hammock, a dog tie up and dog bed or a larger picnic area.

Our bath-house is an outdoor space that offers two stalls for toileting and two stalls for showering.  Included is hand sanitizer and soap/shampoo for showering.  There are hooks to hang up your towels and a water heater.  We do ask that you do not bring outside soap/shampoo to use in the shower as we want to protect our ecosystem and outside soap can have chemicals that may harm that.

Our soaps are specially formulated by Winston Salem’s Moonstone Garden for us and include scents to help aid in the detouring of insects.  The soap is gentle enough to be used for body wash and for your hair.

Our bathrooms include two composting toilets (press the foot pedal!).  We are using state of the art composting systems to help maintain a fresh environment and start the bio-break down of our waste.  No, you will not be going over a bucket.  You’ll also find a mirror, a bathroom guestbook, and hand sanitizer.   Be sure to sign the guest book!

Yes!  Not only are we surrounded by the beauty that is the Yadkin River with kayaking and more but some of our tents are nestled next to a small running creek that runs after a rain.  We do also have a pond but we ask that you do not attempt to play or swim in the pond as to not disturb the animal life and our current cleaning program.

Our glamp sites are powered nearly entirely by solar power or rechargeable battery.  Otherwise, our sites are considered primitive campsites and we do not offer potable water (other than bottles for purchase in our store) or electricity at this time.

Please note: solar power is limited by what it can collect via the sun.  This may mean that there are times when the batteries may not make it through the night.  We ask that you plan to bring flashlights or other forms of light to help you in case this occurs.

Camping essentials: flashlights, food you can grill, water, cookware, clothing (towels if you intend to shower), sunscreen, and bug spray.

If you forget something, though, we do carry some snacks, coffee, and more in our farm store or we are approximately 0.3 miles away from Dollar General and a gas station up the road.

We have a few packages to choose from:

  • Our Dog Package includes: S’more flavored dog treats from Exclusively Dog brand, Vet’s Best Mosquito Repellent Spray for Dogs and a purple bandana.
  • Our Romance Package includes: dried rose petals sprinkled on the bed, a snuggly Purple Alpaca blanket and s’mores to enjoy snuggled up by the fire.  The s’mores come with a branded serving tray to take home, naturally compostable bamboo sticks for roasting and pre packaged graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.
  • Our S’more packages include a serving tray to take home, naturally compostable long bamboo sticks for roasting and pre-packaged graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.  Serves up to 4.

      • In the girls’ pasture, you will also meet Siegfried, our first baby born here.  During this part of the tour, we will take some extra time to feed our girls and you’ll get to learn more about their personalities and why alpaca farming vs other types of farming. The tour ends with some shopping time in our farm store.
  • Other Add-ons:
    • Pack and Play $20
    • Pet Reservation/Fee $20/day
    • Extra twin mattresses $10/each

You can add on a farm tour or packages with your reservation, but they are not automatically included unless you select them. Our yoga class is offered once a month, so please check online to make sure its available.

Due to the nature of our glamping and the terrain leading to our glamping site, it is not wheelchair accessible. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact us.

Entrance into the pastures is only when accompanied by a staff member.  When you check-in for glamping, you will be given a sack of alpaca grain. You can use this bag of grain to feed the alpacas in our pregnant and nursing pasture (the lilac pasture) over the fence.  The girls will be excited to see you!

We have two glamping tents that are dog friendly.  When booking with a pup, our pup friendly tents include a dog bed and a dog tie out outside the tent.  We even offer a glamping pup package to pamper your pup while you are here. The package includes S’more flavored dog treats from Exclusively Dog brand, Vet’s Best Mosquito Repellent Spray for Dogs and a purple bandana. We do ask a $20/day pet fee and ask that your pet be kept on a leash during their stay.

After you check in, you can drive your vehicle up to the bridge to the glamp site. Near the bathroom, we have hand carts that you can use to bring your belongings to the tent. We only ask that they are returned when you are finished for the next guest to use and that you return your vehicle to the parking lot.

Farm Tour

We are currently in development of self-guided tours and are hoping to offer grain bags to feed the animals with while on tour.  While you wait, though, feel free to book a farm tour or a glamping experience to get some more hands on.  We ask that you book a scheduled tour through our webpage here.

We currently offer farm tours on Saturdays from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, and 6pm – 7pm.

When you enter the paved driveway, drive straight until you see the house and then go to the right, there will be a sign pointing the way towards our parking lot.

After you have parked in our parking lot you will see a sign pointing towards the AlpaCafe, just go inside and let us know that you are here for the farm tour.

On our tours, you will get to meet and experience our alpacas, learn more about alpacas as livestock and about our farm.  Meeting them in their pastures, we will walk through both of our girls’ pens.

In the girls’ pasture, you will also meet Siegfried, our first baby born here.  During this part of the tour, we will take some extra time to feed our girls and you’ll get to learn more about their personalities and why alpacas are so special. The tour ends with some shopping time in our farm store.

You should wear comfortable clothes and shoes and sunscreen.  We do walk through the pastures and the ground can be uneven in some areas.

The prices for the farm tour are:

$12 for each person 14+.  $7 for children ages 3-13.  Children 0-2 are free

From petting alpacas, meeting Pascal the bunny, and holding chickens… our farm tours are great for all ages!

Our tour takes place in our pastures which have uneven ground. Our farm tour is not currently wheelchair accessible for this reason. We offer benches in all of our pastures for guests who would like to rest. You can contact us with specific situations and we will be happy to help.
